As we did last year INRH will be taking a summer break in August and as this gives us a little more reading time we’d like to try reading two (slightly longer) books for September which might be interesting to compare… Please jot down your suggestions for possible pairings in the comments box below or email and we will be putting the two chosen texts up here at the beginning of July to catch everyone before you start jetting off to sunnier climes…

We will probably take both July and August to read whichever novels we go with, but hopefully still meet in July to see what everyone is thinking at the halfway point.

A few possibilities we’ve thought of …

She Left Me the Gun – Emma Brockes

Why be Happy when you can be Normal? – Jeanette Winterson

We Need to Talk about Kevin – Lionel Shriver

The Talented Mr Ripley – Patricia Highsmith

The Waves – Virginia Woolf

Housekeeping – Marilynne Robinson

Their Eyes Were Watching God – Zora Neal Hurston

Beloved – Toni Morrison
